Malta-based regional airline Universal Air has launched a new twice-weekly flight between Malta, Pécs in Hungary and Munich.

The flight will run on Tuesdays and Fridays until 22 October. From 2 June, a third weekly flight, running on Sundays, will be added to Universal Air’s summer schedule.

Earlier in March, Universal Air launched its regional air travel operations as the airline looks to expand and set new standards for air travel across the Mediterranean. On its website, the airline claims to combine “the cost-efficiency of a low-cost carrier with the premium service of a traditional carrier.” The airline has a fleet of 78-seater Dash 8-400 aircraft.

The airline is also developing partnerships with a range of Global Distribution Services (GDS) and Online Travel Agents to enhance its market presence.

Universal Air’s CEO, Simon Cook, said: “We are excited to launch our maiden flight from Malta to Pécs and Munich on 26 March, providing a cost-effective new connection between Malta, Hungary and Germany on our 78-seater Dash 8 aircraft. We will also be announcing more flight routes to popular Mediterranean destinations over the coming weeks.”

Thomas Kube, Vice President of Route and Passenger Development at Munich International Airport, added: “Universal Air’s new flight to Pécs offers passengers outside of Munich’s catchment area a third option in Hungary, helping to strengthen the links between both regions and provide easy accessibility for business travellers, tourists and students.”
