Qantas has finalised an incremental order for nine A220-300 aircraft, bringing the Australian airline’s total backlog for the single-aisle aircraft type to 29. The carrier expects its first A220 to be delivered at the end of this year for operations on its domestic route network.

“We are pleased to announce this incremental order from Qantas,” said Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer, Airbus and Head of Airbus International. “Best in class, the A220 will be the perfect platform for a domestic network that includes everything from short hops to flights of five hours and beyond.

“Combining efficiency, comfort and longer range, the A220 will also contribute from day one to the carrier’s far-reaching Climate Action Plan,” he added.
