Low-fare airline Jetstar Asia, part of the Jetstar Group, has announced John Simeone will become its new Chief Executive Officer.

Simeone is currently Qantas’s Senior VP for Asia and has over 30 years of experience within the aviation industry. He will succeed the incumbent CEO, Barathan Pasupathi, who will step down from the role effective 1 March 2024.

“John’s appointment provides continuity to the business and strong leadership to Jetstar Asia as we continue an exciting chapter of growth at the airline,” said Dennis Choo, Jetstar Asia Chairman.

As the airline’s new CEO, Simeone has said he will continue to focus on building capacity and connectivity out of Changi Airport.

“I’m looking forward to leading the Jetstar Asia team and continuing to deliver great experiences for our customers,” he added.

Jetstar recently commenced its first flight from Singapore to the Chinese city of Wuxi, which took place on 28 December. It is the carrier’s second direct route to mainland China, a market which outgoing CEO Barathan Pasupathi said was “critical” for Jetstar.
