Bonza has finally launched its new route from the Gold Coast to Darwin after a series of delays.
The route was meant to be launched late last year, but it was pushed back due to capacity constraints and CASA certification issues with its Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
This new route complements Bonza’s other routes in and out of the Northern Territory, with its Sunshine Coast–Darwin and Melbourne–Alice Springs routes. The airline established a base in Gold Coast in August 2023, which anticipated 70 new flights per week and a growth of 700,000 further passengers.
The twice-weekly route will operate on Tuesdays/Wednesdays and Fridays/Saturdays.
“We’re Australia’s only independent, low-cost airline, and we’re working hard to bring more choices for Gold Coast and Darwin customers with the introduction of affordable flights between these two iconic locations,” said Tim Jordan, Bonza’s CEO.
“The Gold Coast to Darwin route has long been an underserved market, so we are thrilled that Bonza has recognised its potential,” added Amelia Evans, CEO of Queensland Airports Ltd.
