Allegiant Travel Company, the parent of ultra-low-fare carrier Allegiant Air, has announced that its CEO, John Redmond, has resigned with immediate effect. He will be replaced by Allegiant’s former CEO, Maurice J. Gallagher.
Gallagher was CEO of the low-fare airline from 2003 until last year when Redmond took over. During this time, he built the company into a profitable airline with over 120 aircraft, operating more than 550 routes to 120 cities in the United States.
Gallagher will also stay in his role as Chairman of Allegiant’s board.
As part of this statement, he said: “I am grateful to the board for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this incredible organisation.”
Allegiant Travel Company, of which Allegiant’s air operations form its ‘heart’, is expanding its operations into other areas within the leisure, hospitality and travel industry, a point which Gallagher also pressed the importance of.
The group made a recent investment in its Sunseeker Resort at Charlotte Harbour, Florida, which is slated to open in Q4 2023.
Gallagher said: “I’m particularly proud of the Sunseeker team we’ve put in place, and I know they will carry the project over the finish line and establish the hotel as a premier destination in Southwest Florida.
“We’re excited about completing construction and opening Sunseeker Resort,” continued Gallagher. “Industry veteran Micah Richins and his experienced team will continue to lead Sunseeker, and we look forward to a successful opening and operation.”
