Wizz Air moves out of Frankfurt Airport

Wizz Air is to halt flights from Frankfurt Airport from April according to Airliners.de. The LCC first began flying from Frankfurt in 2017, with the airport being regarded as the focal point of Germany’s airline industry. Recently, it had seen an increase in LCCs using the airport. But, Wizz Air is now planning to remove its services from Frankfurt on 30 April, with the Sofia route ending on 27 March.

According to Airliners.de, Wizz is pulling out of the airport because the discounts that the airline receives are expiring. Frankfurt Airport has reportedly been offering the carrier three years of discounts on fees to grow services to the airport. But it now appears that this plan has gone awry, as Wizz will leave as the discount scheme ends.

A Wizz spokesperson said: “Frankfurt routes will no longer be served from 2020 summer season. Passengers with bookings affected by this change will automatically be accommodated on an alternative route at the earliest possible time.”
