Wizz Air has welcomed the 50th aircraft to its Maltese subsidiary fleet, Wizz Air Malta. The aircraft, an Airbus A321neo with the tail number 9H-WDK, will be based in Rome, where the airline will operate 77 routes.

The aircraft is financed by Wizz Air’s longstanding partner SMBC Group and marks the 50th aircraft to join the Maltese airline’s fleet since it was established six months ago. Wizz Air Malta operates 265 routes from Italy, Albania, Austria and Romania with its fleet of 50 Airbus A320 family aircraft.

Diarmuid O’Conghaile, Managing Director, Wizz Air Malta, celebrated the 50th aircraft milestone for Wizz Air Malta: “Having started operations only six months ago, Wizz Air Malta is now operating up to 200 flights per day from 14 bases in 4 countries. We are proud to have grown so quickly and efficiently, thanks to the amazing team of 1,500 dedicated employees.”

O’Conghaile added that the airline will continue its expansion plans across Europe, with the introduction of more aircraft and routes expected.

“I would like to congratulate Wizz Air Malta for reaching the 50th aircraft milestone in such a short time,” said Capt. Charles Pace, Director General, Civil Aviation Directorate Malta. “There have been very good working arrangements set up, allowing for an efficient process.

“I would also like to thank the Wizz Air Malta team, as well as the airworthiness inspectorate within CAD Malta, who made this happen,” continued Pace. “We look forward to continuing the process to achieve the ambitious target set by the company.”
