Wizz Air has launched six new year-round routes from Budapest Airport, alongside the additional basing of two aircraft, to boost its growth at the airport.

Commencing in June, these new routes will be from Budapest to Brasov, Brussels, Bucharest, Stuttgart, Valencia, and Yerevan.

This expanded map of 67 destinations from Budapest will further enhance connectivity for the airline. The new capacity will give the airport access to an extra 700,000 extra seats from this summer, resulting in a 13% increase in growth from summer 2023.

Frequency increases are also expected on 10 further services. Athens and Madrid increasing to daily, Malta, Nice and Alicante to five times weekly, Glasgow and Thessaloniki to three times weekly, Basel to nine times weekly, Rome to double-daily, and Milan Malpensa to 18 times weekly.

Despite Wizz Air’s ongoing industry challenges, with a predicted 10% fleet capacity reduction for the second half of 2024 due to ongoing Pratt and Whitney GTF engine issues, the airline shows few signs of slowing its expansion.

Balázs Bogáts, CCO of Budapest Airport, said: “Our airport is seen as a key player in development plans and with two new based aircraft, this is not only reinforced but also brings novel route options and increased frequency for our passengers.

“Our new routes with Wizz Air further solidify our commitment to provide our passengers with an array of travel options. These destinations will cater to a diverse range of interests, and we look forward to welcoming both leisure and business travellers on these fantastic new routes,” added Bogáts.
