Safran Aircraft Engines has announced the creation of a new foundry works in Rennes, Brittany. The new facility will manufacture turbine blades for its CFM International LEAP and M88 engines.

These operations will be grouped together under a new entity called Safran Turbine Airfoils. It will employ around 200 people, and hold potential expansion for the future. The facility will be operational in 2027, and extend Safran’s production network for advanced fan blades.

The LEAP engine has been in service since 2016 and reduces fuel consumption on the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX families by 15%.

“The strategic decision to locate Safran Turbine Airfoils here in France reflects our support for the country’s national sovereignty and industry renaissance. We want to make Safran Turbine Airfoils a showcase of our flair for innovation, industrial efficiency and energy performance,” said Olivier Andriès, CEO of Safran.
