Low-fare airline, Ruili Airlines, has become the first Chinese carrier to join Embraer’s Energia Advisory Group.

Both Embraer and Ruili will work together on the design requirements for the next-generation sustainable aircraft – two 19-30 seat designs featuring hybrid-electric and hydrogen-electric propulsion technologies. At present, Ruili Airlines has 22 aircraft and has been operating for eight years.

Ye Yajuan, Chairman of Ruili Airlines, has expressed the airline’s excitement to work on the project, to develop sustainable aviation in China. “As the first native airline company of Wuxi, we plan to fully exploit the regional advantages in rapidly growing East China, an increasingly important centre for technology development.”

“Ruili Airlines’ participation has special importance because China is the region most likely to see the largest growth in aviation traffic,” said Guo Qing, Managing Director and VP of Commercial Aviation at Embraer China. “Sustainability will be a key differentiator for airlines in the post-pandemic market.”

This announcement comes off the back of Embraer’s ‘Energia – The Shape of Things To Come’ broadcast, where there was a 360° tour of the two aircraft concepts entering the market in around 2035 – the Energia H2 Fuel Cell and Energia Hybrid Electric.
