Qantas Group will soon take delivery of its first new-generation A220, the first of 29 new A220s ordered by the Group for operation by its regional subsidiary, QantasLink.

At the time of writing, the aircraft is en route to Australia, departing the final assembly line in Mirabel towards Sydney, initially stopping in Vancouver, Honolulu, and Nadi in Fiji.

The new A220s will replace QantasLink’s 717 fleet. The A220 can fly twice as far as the 717, connecting any two points across Australia non-stop whilst reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions by 25%.

QantasLink’s A220 will be configured in a two-class layout with 137 seats. 10 passengers will be seated in business, whilst 127 will be in economy. The A220 also features a unique livery based on Aboriginal artwork.

Seven aircraft are expected by the end of 2024, and all of Qantas Group’s A220 aircraft for QantasLink are expected to be delivered by 2027.

Airbus has received close to 850 orders from 30 customers for the A220, with 300 aircraft already being delivered worldwide.
