MYAirline, a Malaysian low-fare carrier, has become the first APAC carrier to have eco-friendly seats installed on its fleet.
The airline has partnered up with aircraft interior company Geven, which is equipping all MYAirline’s A320 fleet with ‘superEco’ aircraft seats. The seats are made from leather that would otherwise go to landfills, with the leather fibres also being mixed with other ‘core’ material that makes it lightweight.
“This is a positive step towards playing our role in reducing our carbon footprint,” said MYAirline CEO, Rayner Teo, commenting that the ergonomic design of the seat will fit its aspirations as an eco-friendly airline.
“Although we are a low-cost airline, we take pride in ensuring that we provide highly comfortable seats. […] Besides being comfortable, the superEco seats are not only lightweight but easy to maintain. This helps keep our cost structure low,” Teo explained.
Overall the superEco seat gives legroom of 17.5 inches in the emergency exit rows and 12.3 inches in other rows, with a roomier knee and shin clearance when at a seat pitch of 28-29 inches (MYAirlines has a standard seat pitch of 29inches, with 34 inches in the exit rows).
“We are pleased to see our newborn superEco seats reach the APAC skies for the first time with MyAirline,” added Alberto Veneruso, Managing Director of Geven, noting that the seats would give MYAirline passengers “maximum comfort and travel space”.
