Luxembourg’s Luxair has purchased four Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, with two options and purchase rights for three more.
Unveiled at the ERA General Assembly in Innsbruck, Austria, the E195-E2 aircraft will complement Luxair’s narrowbody fleet out of London City Airport.
With the E195-E2 as part of its fleet, these regional jets open up the potential for Luxair to extend its reach across Europe, serving its regional markets in a better operational capacity with minimal restrictions to payload.
The focus on city operations in and out of London was also a “big driver” for the airline in making this purchasing decision, its CEO Gilles Feith disclosed to assembled media at the event.
“It was the best fit on our network,” the CEO said.
The carrier will increase the number of its routes from 60 to 95 next year and wants to sustain its reach. “We need planes quickly, and Embraer was forthcoming to get the planes to where we needed,” he added.
The first aircraft is due to be delivered by Q4 2025, finishing in November 2026.
Martyn Holmes, CCO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, said, “It’s great to welcome Luxair back to the Embraer Family; in the past, Luxair has operated ERJ-145 and Emb-120. The E2 is perfectly suited to Luxair’s operations and ambitions, closely complementing Luxair’s existing and on-order fleet, ensuring the maximum level of fleet and network optimisation to the airline for the long-term.”
