South Korean low-fare airline Eastar Jet has commissioned Lufthansa Technik (LT) to supply components for its short and medium-haul fleet of Boeing 737NG aircraft.

The carrier, formed in 2007, currently operates 18 B737NGs and has firm orders in place for more. The Total Component Support (TCS) agreement includes component maintenance as well as spare parts leasing through a component pool at the airline’s headquarters at Gimpo International Airport in Seoul. It also has a base at Incheon International Airport, and currently serves more than 27 destinations in nine different countries.

Eastar will also be granted access to the corresponding spare parts pools at LT. Daniel Yim, general manager of purchasing at the airline, said: “We are confident that Lufthansa Technik will offer us optimal support, which will also help us with the expansion of our flight operations.”

Stefan Loh, LT’s senior sales manager, welcomed Eastar Jet as a new customer for the company in South Korea and said they were “proud that the airline has entrusted us with our comprehensive component supply. It is our goal to support Eastar Jet with excellent quality and service as well as our competitive cost structure.”

The TCS pool comprises over 100,000 different components, with aircraft operators benefitting from optimal component availability, without having to create and maintain their own spare parts warehouses, as well as lower operating costs mostly through effects of scale.
