Brazillian aerospace company Embraer’s E190-E2 and E195-E2 jets have gained type certification from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS).

This joins three other key authorities – the USA’s FAA, Europe’s EASA, and Brazil’s ANAC – who certified these E-Jets in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

“We welcome the type certification of the E190-E2 and E195-E2 and thank CAAS for their thorough assessment,” said Raul Villaron, Vice President and Head of Region, Asia Pacific, Embraer Commercial Aviation.

This certification is also a timely one, as Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, is due to operate the E190-E2 from 2024. It will be the first Singaporean carrier to operate the E2s.

Leslie Thng, Scoot’s Chief Executive Officer, said, “Certification of the E190-E2 and E195-E2 by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore marks a significant milestone for Scoot. It reinforces our commitment to operating a modern and fuel-efficient fleet and brings us a step nearer to offering more travel opportunities to our customers.”

Recently, Embraer and CAE announced the establishment of an E2 full-flight simulator and pilot training programme, which will start operations at the end of 2023. The centre will be based at the Singapore CAE Flight Training Centre, located within the SIA Training Centre.

Embraer’s modern regional jet

Built as a successor to the hugely successful first generation of E-Jets, the Embraer E2 family builds on its original design. Keeping the same fuselage, the E2 jets have a new carbon fibre wing design and more fuel-efficient engines that lower emissions and noise output.

Launched at the Paris Airshow in 2013, the E2 jet family has now risen to prominence as the most sustainable, efficient regional jet aircraft on the market.

The E190-E2 can seat up to 114 passengers (single class) with a maximum range of 2,850 nautical miles, whilst the slightly stretched E195-E2 jet has a capacity of up to 146 seats (single class) and a maximum range of 2,600 nm.

So far, in 2023, Embraer has delivered 71 E2 jets to its customers across the globe, including 21 E195-E2 jets in the third quarter.
