Insurtech provider Cover Genius has announced a customised protection program for Scandinavian airline SAS

The travel protection offerings are embedded in the customer booking flow, giving passengers AI-backed product recommendations, price optimisation and a seamless claims experience.

The program applies to 25 countries in Europe and the United States, with the ability for it to scale globally.

The partnership was jointly developed by the two companies, whereby SAS passengers will now be able to choose protection and cover options for any destination with XCover, Cover Genius’s global distribution platform.

“This partnership with Cover Genius allows us to cater to our travellers’ preference for a dynamic and tech-forward solution that is easy to use, convenient and scalable,” said Caroline Bergström, Head of Ancillary Products, Connectivity and Retail of SAS.

Changing purchasing behaviour

This new partnership aligns with a major shift in traveller’s insurance purchasing behaviour.

The insurtech provider recently commissioned a survey that showed customers were most satisfied when purchasing travel protection directly from their travel provider or airline.

69% of travellers preferred to purchase insurance from their airline for the following trip, whilst 47% preferred buying embedded protection versus buying insurance elsewhere as a ‘second step’.

Cover Genius co-creates solutions with its partners to embed tailored, optimised protection which is licensed or authorised in more than 60 countries. Its global customers include Ryanair, Turkish Airlines, Spirit Airlines, and Volaris.

SAS is Scandanavia’s flag carrier with hubs in Oslo, Copenhagen and Stockholm. It flies to destinations in Europe, the US and Asia. A founding member of the Star Alliance, it offers a wide network for passengers, together with its partner airlines.
