United Airlines has announced an order for 200 Boeing aircraft: 100 737 MAXs, and 100 787 Dreamliners (with an option to purchase 100 more 787s) in a bid to invest in its future fleet.

This 787 Dreamliner order is the largest one of this type in Boeing’s history. Of the 100 737 MAX orders, United are exercising 44 existing options, whilst 56 are newly placed orders.

With this order, United Airlines has placed 430 orders for 737 MAX aircraft, and this order bumps up its total orders for Boeing aircraft above 530.

Commenting on this fleet investment, Stan Deal, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said that the “737 MAX and 787 will help United accelerate its fleet modernisation and global growth strategy.”

The 737 MAX is designed to improve fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions by 20%, whilst the 787 also offers an impressive 25% improvement in fuel use compared with the aircraft it replaces.
