Ampaire has set a new hybrid-electric flight record with a flight time of 12 hours on its EEL aircraft demonstrator.

Announced as a “ground-breaking mission”, the aircraft covered a distance of 1,375 miles and had over two hours of battery and fuel reserves remaining at the end of the flight. This achievement by Ampaire follows a successful set of test flights across North America, including Alaska, Arizona and California, completed earlier in the year.

“Ampaire has shattered the conventional boundaries of electrified flight, underscoring our relentless pursuit of transformative vehicle performance and commercial utility,” said Ampaire CEO Kevin Noertker.

The EEL demonstrator has served as the backbone for its AMP-H570 AMP Drive™ hybrid-electric propulsion unit, which is currently flying in Ampaire’s Eco Caravan, offering a 50-70% reduction in emissions compared to traditional PT6 Pratt & Whitney turboprop engines.

The EEL testbed aircraft first took flight in 2019 and stands as Ampaire’s platform for developing scalable technology and certification processes.
