Raking in the largest order for Boeing in Southeast Asia, the American manufacturer announced a massive 290 aircraft firm order from Air India, split between single-aisle and widebody jets.

The order includes 190 737 MAXs, 20 787 Dreamliners and 10 777X jets with options for 50 737 MAXs and 20 787 Dreamliners.

Over the next 20 years, South Asia is expected to more than triple its in-service fleet from 700 to 2,300 airplanes to meet passenger demand.

This firm order is carried over from February, when Air India announced that it would use these Boeing models to carry on its sustainable growth.

In a statement at the initial announcement, Stan Deal, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said: “With the industry-leading fuel efficiency of the 737 MAX, 787 Dreamliner and 777X, Air India is well positioned to achieve its expansion plans and become a world-class global airline with an Indian heart.”
