An Ethiopian Airlines Dash 8 suffered a runway excursion while departing Juba International Airport on December 10. The aircraft was heavily damaged, but no one was hurt in the incident.

The Ethiopian Airlines de Havilland Dash 8-402Q registered ET-AQC, was operating its second leg of flight ET357 from Juba International Airport, South Sudan, to Addis Ababa.

During its take-off roll, the aircraft overran the end of the runway and ended up at rest on the soft ground. The left main gear collapsed and the port engine was damaged, projecting blade debris punctured the fuselage.

General manager of the airport, Kur Kuol Ajieu, stated that operations were not affected and the weather conditions at the time of take-off were poor. In a statement, the airline confirmed heavy rain and wind were reported. Passengers were transferred on the next available flight.
