Wizz Air has announced the addition of a third Airbus A321XLR aircraft to its London Gatwick base, to be operational from September 2026. The expansion brings the airline’s total UK-based fleet to 21 aircraft, with six positioned at Gatwick and 15 at London Luton.
The A321XLR is capable of operating long-range routes previously served by widebody planes, with Wizz Air configuring it as a single class to maintain a high-density, low-fare seating model.
Yvonne Moynihan, Managing Director at Wizz Air UK, said that the aircraft allocation is part of a strategy to offer more direct routes to a wider variety of destinations, including long-range connections to Saudi Arabia, while maintaining a young fleet.
Wizz Air – key operational changes:
- Increased frequency: Daily flights from London Gatwick to Valencia and Prague will begin September 15.
- Saudi Arabia expansion: The airline will increase daily flight frequencies to Jeddah, providing nearly 500,000 seats to the region in 2026.
- Luton growth: By Summer 2026, the airline intends to serve 66 destinations from its Luton hub.
