A321

Low-fare airline Wizz Air has started its renewal strategy to phase out the Airbus A321ceo from its fleet by March 2029.

Wizz Air received its first A321ceo in December 2016 and accumulated 41 of the aircraft type. The airline primarily operated the aircraft across the Wizz Air Hungary network and some under Wizz Air Malta.

With sustainability in mind, Wizz Air has always been keen to promote the youth of its fleet, with the overall fleet having an average age of 4.57 years. By replacing the A321ceos with A321neo and A321XLR aircraft, the airline is anticipating an average fleet age of 6.39 years in 2032.

“Wizz Air already operates one of the youngest and most modern fleets in Europe, and today’s milestone underscores our continued commitment to investing in the most advanced technology available,” said Julia Brix, Supply Chain Officer of Wizz Air. “As we retire the A321ceo aircraft and transition toward a fleet dominated by Airbus’ neo technology, we are further reducing fuel burn, lowering emissions, and enhancing efficiency across our network. With neo aircraft already representing 75% of our fleet – and set to rise significantly as the ceo fleet phases out – we remain firmly focused on operating the most environmentally sustainable and technologically advanced aircraft fleet in Europe.”
