Wizz Air has announced four new year-round routes starting in winter this year. The destinations will be Marrakech, Genoa, Girona, and Memmingen.

This announcement is part of a continuous expansion of Wizz Air’s route map, following six new year-round routes from Budapest Airport earlier in the year. The airline has also added a new aircraft to its fleet, now offering an extra 360,000 seats on sale, creating close to 7 million seats to and from Budapest this year.

“We have worked closely with Wizz Air to bring these exciting new routes to our passengers,” said Máté Ritter, Head of Airline Development for Budapest Airport. “This expansion is a great revival and introduction of destinations to our route map.”

Marrakech in Morocco is a revived route that will launch in late October. It will operate twice weekly and become the only link between Budapest and the destination. Ryanair last provided this route in 2019.

The first new route, Genoa in Italy, will begin operations in late October on a three-times weekly basis. This route is popular for the cruise market and will simplify the journey for passengers who previously had to bypass Milan to reach Genoa.

Valeria Bragarenco, Communications Manager at Wizz Air, said, “Thanks to this expansion, Wizz Air has grown to become the largest airline ever in Budapest by the number of seats available. The continuous network expansion demonstrates our company’s continued commitment to the Hungarian market.”

Also starting in late October is the new service to Girona in Spain. The route will operate three times weekly and open up travel potential to southern France, a popular destination.

Memmingen in Germany is another revived route, scheduled four times weekly and last operated by Ryanair in 2012. The route will commence on 17 December and diversify travel options to Bavaria and Austria.

This expansion increases capacity by over 30% compared to the winter season the year before. Due to this, Wizz Air’s market share in the region has grown to 41%.
