Wizz Air has attained Level II certification under the IATA Security Management System (SeMS) programme for Wizz Air Hungary and Wizz Air Malta, becoming the first low-fare airline to achieve the certification level. Wizz Air UK is expected to be certified next year.

“Achieving SeMS certification is a proud milestone that highlights our commitment to operational excellence and a proactive security culture,” said Diarmuid O’ Conghaile, Wizz Air’s Chief Operations Officer. “Our teams will continue to build on this strong foundation to further strengthen security management across the Wizz network.”

The SeMS programme aims to foster a risk-based, performance-driven security culture across the aviation industry, providing a structured framework and internal and external confidence in an organisation’s security oversight system.

“SeMS is essential to shifting global aviation security from a compliance-based approach to one that proactively identifies and mitigates risks while driving continuous improvement,” commented Frederic Leger, IATA Senior Vice President, Products & Services. “Achieving this requires the full support of the air transport industry. Wizz Air is leading the way—not only as the first low-cost airline to earn this certification, but through its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of aviation security.”
