Vietjet, a low-fare airline based in Vietnam, has converted its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) into a firm order for 100 Airbus A321neo aircraft. The MoU was initially placed in June 2025 at the Paris Air Show, and is part of a fleet modernisation and expansion programme. Currently, the airline has 280 A321s on order, and recently ordered 20 A330neos.

Vietjet Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao said: “This is not merely a commercial contract, but a symbol of trust, aspiration, and a shared vision for sustainable development and global connectivity.”

“The A321neo’s proven efficiency and flexibility make it the ideal platform to support Vietjet’s ambitious expansion,” commented Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business. “Combined with the A330neo, this fleet will deliver the best economics and seamless commonality across operations, hallmarks of the Airbus product family.”

The announcement was made following a meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Vietnam’s General Secretary To Lam, marking the significant investment into British manufacturing that the order brings, due to the aircraft’s wings being designed in Bristol and manufactured in North Wales. This ties in with another announcement from June that Vietjet had placed an order with Rolls-Royce for 40 Trent 7000 engines for its A330neos, another boost for British aerospace.

“This landmark deal shows that British innovation continues to be at the forefront in connecting the world,” added Starmer. “By working hand-in-hand with our international partners, we are helping our aerospace sector soar, creating thousands of high-skilled jobs, boosting our economy and delivering real benefits for working people across the UK as part of our Plan for Change.”
