German aerospace companies VÆRIDION and Deutsche Aircraft have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to pool expertise and resources to develop and test new technologies for emission-free and low-emission aircraft.

VÆRIDION is a pioneer in all-electric aviation with its nine-seat Microliner and Deutsche Aircraft is the manufacturer of the D328eco, a 40-seat regional aircraft designed to be 100 per cent Sustainable Aviation Fuel-ready.

The companies will focus on research and technology and development, with a shared goal of revitalising local communities and under-served air routes.

A key aspect of the MoU is Deutsche Aircraft’s support for VÆRIDION’s flight testing programme. VÆRIDION will use the UpLift D-CUPL, a flying testbed operated by the German Aerospace Center (DLR), and a modified Dornier 328 to test its advanced battery technology in real-world flight conditions.

Deutsche Aircraft, which holds the type certificate for the D328, will contribute its knowledge in structural design, industrialisation and testing to the development of the Microliner.

Markus Kochs-Kämper, CTO and Managing Director of VÆRIDION, said the MOU “marks a pivotal moment in our journey toward emission-free regional flights”.

He added: “By uniting our technological expertise with Deutsche Aircraft’s long-standing engineering excellence and design quality, we aim to accelerate the Microliner programme and provide sustainable, cost-effective air travel solutions to underserved markets in Europe and beyond.”

Frederic Fischer, Head of R&T at Deutsche Aircraft, said: “We are proud to collaborate with VÆRIDION in shaping the future of regional aviation. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the transformation of air mobility.”

Both companies are based in the greater Munich area and have a presence at the AirTech Campus at Oberpfaffenhofen Airport, a hub for German aerospace innovation.
