The Ecuadorian General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) has officially validated the Type Certificate for the entire Tecnam P2012 aircraft series, allowing the immediate entry into service of all variants under local registration.
The validation covers the P2012 Traveller, the P2012 Sentinel Special Mission Platform (SMP), and the rugged P2012 STOL.
The DGAC has approved both engine configurations – the Lycoming TEO-540 and the Continental GTSIO-520-S – providing operators with the flexibility to choose the performance profile that best suits their specific environment.
“Ecuador presents a unique and varied operating environment where Tecnam’s offer of variants and multi-mission capabilities covers it all,” said Francesco Sferra, Tecnam’s P2012 Sales & Business Development Manager.
With this regulatory milestone, the P2012 series is now available for a wide array of sectors, including commercial airlines, private owners, and government entities.
Diego Ribadeneira, Director of Transair Leasing – Tecnam’s exclusive dealer for the region – noted that the approval is the key to unlocking the Ecuadorian market.
He said: “Whether connecting the high Andes or landing on short jungle strips, the P2012 line is now ready to serve Ecuador.”
The P2012 family is positioned as a cost-effective, high-safety replacement for ageing “heritage” twin-engine aircraft.

Tecnam’s P2012 range has gained approval by the Ecuadorian regulator.
