TAP Air Portugal has launched a new direct summer route between Faro, on Portugal’s southcoast and Funchal, Madeira, operating two flights per week until September 11 using Embraer E-190s.

The airline says the new route is part of its strategy “to strengthen mobility within the national territory”.

“By directly linking the Algarve and Madeira by air, the airline contributes to the diversification of the touristic offer and to regional economic development,” said TAP in a statement.

Meanwhile, Canadian regional carrier, Porter Airlines, has announced a new twice-daily direct route from Hamilton to Halifax and Vancouver, using Embraer’s largest regional aircraft, the 195-E2.

Andrew Pierce, vice president for Porter Airlines, said: “We believe the community will appreciate the ability to fly closer to home and we see significant opportunities to expand our network across North America.”
