SMBC Aviation Capital has signed a sale and lease back deal with the Mexican low-fare airline Viva Aerobus, in a transaction including seven Airbus A320neo aircraft and also providing a Pre Delivery Payment (PDP) facility for the aircraft.
The A320neo aircraft will be powered by Pratt & Whitney engines and are scheduled for delivery this year.
“We are delighted to build on our relationship with SMBC Aviation Capital and successfully mark the financing of seven new A320neos,” said Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus. “These aircraft will greatly enhance our fleet and help us to deliver our vision of strengthening our network for our passengers. 2018 was an incredible year, having transported more than 10 million passengers for the first time in our history, so we are very excited about the coming opportunities for our business.”
Commenting on the deal, Peter Barrett, CEO, SMBC Aviation Capital added: “We are pleased to announce our first sale and leaseback deal of 2019. This deal with Viva Aerobus supports a long standing customer in a key region for us.
“Mexico is an exciting, fast-growing market that is seeing increased demand for high-quality aircraft that offer the latest technology. We look forward to continuing our long partnership with Viva Aerobus.”
The deal follows on from SMBC Aviation Capital’s announcement earlier in the week of an order for 65 new A320neo family aircraft from Airbus.
Also earlier in the week, the lessor revealed the details of a deal signed in December 2018 with Southwest Airlines.
The transaction involves the placement of twelve Boeing 737 MAX8 aircraft from SMBC Aviation Capital’s orderbook, with the first aircraft set for delivery in July 2019.
SMBC Aviation Capital’s CEO Barrett, commented: “This deal to place aircraft with Southwest, highlights SMBC Aviation Capital’s commitment to the growth and development of its business and we look forward to working with Southwest in the coming years.”
