SAS is expanding its domestic route network across Sweden with new connections from Arlanda to Halmstad and Kalmar launching today.

Arlanda serves as the hub for Swedish regional travel, providing access from the North to the South and abroad, with frequent flights to Copenhagen. Halmstad is seen as a centre for business development in southwestern Sweden, and Kalmar presents a bustling business and entrepreneurial spirit, with both destinations boasting scenic views and historical and cultural landmarks for tourists.

“We are very pleased to begin operations to Halmstad and Kalmar, as this is a natural step in SAS’ long-term commitment to enhancing travel options within Sweden and internationally,” said Edward Fotheringham, Vice President Global Sales at SAS.     “Strong connections for both leisure and business travellers are a win for the entire country, playing a crucial role in boosting the Swedish economy across multiple sectors.”

“The air link between Halmstad and Stockholm is a vital part of Sweden’s infrastructure. Not only does it facilitate business, government presence, and regional development, but it also plays a crucial role in our defence and societal preparedness,” added Anders Thornberg, Governor of Halland County.

“It’s highly positive that SAS is now operating the route to Kalmar with Arlanda as the hub,” commented Ronny Lindberg, CEO at Kalmar Öland Airport. “Moving forward, it is essential that we all capitalise on the increased accessibility provided by SAS’ investment, which is fundamental to the region’s growth,”

SAS’ regional portfolio has grown since the beginning of the year, with the launch of  a route to Sälen, and increased frequencies on established routes. Braathens Airways AB also became a subcontractor for SAS, which is expected to continue to develop the domestic route network.
