The Airbus A220 is expected to get certified for commercial operations in Russia by the end of the year.
At the MAKS 2019 airshow, Julien Franiatte the head of Airbus in Russia stated that the Russian aviation authorities had been fully cooperating with Airbus in order to complete all the necessary work in time for early December. The first variant to be certified will be the Airbus A220-300 variant.
Airbus has publicly stated that it sees potential of the A220 in the region and “is already in talks with a number of Russian carriers.”
There are two state-controlled leasing companies which in total have 20 A220-300s on order. These are Ilyushin Finance Company and State Transport Leasing Company.
