Effective from the 6th September, Pieter Elbers has been named as IndiGo’s new CEO. Former KLM CEO, Pieter replaces Ronojoy Dutta who was scheduled to retired from the airline as its CEO at the end of September.

A veteran of the aviation industry, starting his career in 1992, Elbers has held several managerial positions across the globe, in Japan, Greece, and Italy, before becoming the Chief Executive Officers at KLM in 2014. The competition in the Indian aviation sector is due to become much tougher, with the arrival of another new low-fare carrier, Akasa Air, entering the fray.

“We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Pieter Elbers as the Chief Executive Officer of the company. India promises to be the last bastion of enormous growth globally and given Elbers’ deep understanding of the business, his legendary leadership qualities coupled with his energy and passion, we are ever so confident that under his stewardship, IndiGo will play a pivotal role in this growth opportunity,” said Rahul Bhatia, Managing Director and co-promoter of IndiGo in a statement released in May.
