Meggitt PLC, a leading international company specialising in high-performance components and sub-systems for the aerospace industry, has been selected to provide wheel and brake upgrades for the current and future global ATR 72 fleet.

Fifteen airline operators have agreed to operate 185 ATR 72 aircraft with upgraded Meggitt equipment, of which 64 have already been installed with heavy duty wheels and brakes with NuCarb® carbon.

The new generation of enhancements provide improved performance and reliability while also allowing the ATR 72’s gross take-off weight to be increased as well as reducing the operating cost, reliability and turnaround time for airline operators.

NuCarb® is the very latest in carbon technology and is produced in Danville, Kentucky, in one of the world’s most modern aerospace carbon brake manufacturing facilities.

Meggitt will support ATR’s ability to provide general maintenance agreements to its operators of Meggitt’s heavy-duty brakes.

Tony Wood, chief executive, said “Meggitt has a longstanding relationship with ATR going back almost 40 years and we are proud to continue to support the turboprop maker, and its operators, on a global basis.  The selection of Meggitt’s NuCarb® technology for the ATR 72 further underlines the performance and operating cost benefits of our innovative aircraft braking system technology.”
