Turboprop specialist ATR is adding a new Full Flight Simulator (FFS) built by provider CAE to its training centre in Toulouse.

The EASA and FAA-certified simulator at the manufacturer’s headquarters will allow crew members to receive training on the ATR 72-600 aircraft type. The new kit will start operations in July this year, with ATR saying it will enable the company to provide customers and operators with 4,500 additional training hours per year.

The company recently equipped its Paris training centre with an ATR 72-600 FFS, while its Toulouse centre is already equipped with simulators to support ATR 42-300/500, 72-200/500, and the latest ATR 72-600 variant.

Tom Anderson, senior vice-president programs and customer services at ATR, said the continued expansion of the manufacturer’s training capacity “is our key contribution to solving the global pilot shortage. We are committed to support our customers’ and operators’ forthcoming expansion plans, and will continue to add training capacity, as global demand requires it, for us to remain the regional leader worldwide.”

ATR has five training centres in Toulouse, Paris, Johannesburg, Singapore and Miami, and delivers over 100,000 training hours to over 3,500 trainees every year.
