Mirus Aircraft Seating has launched a new long-range economy seat that it hopes will be an attractive option for low-fare operators looking to move into the long-haul sector.

As carriers such as Wizz Air are starting to use narrow-body aircraft such as the A321 XLR on long-haul routes, the Falcon range of seating can offer enhanced passenger comfort and space for increased flight durations.

Unveiled at AIX 2025 in Hamburg this week, the Falcon features a  27° recline, an articulated seat pan for ergonomic support, options for an integrated IFE screen and various custom options such as headrest and stowing variations.

Designed for both single and twin-aisle long-range aircraft, including the Airbus A321XLR and Boeing 737MAX, both increasingly part of low-fare carriers’ fleets, it is available for retrofit initially, with line-fit options being developed in collaboration with OEMs.

A Mirus spokesperson told LARA that the low-fare, long-haul sector was “very much” in their sights with the Falcon seat.

Mirus also revealed the Hawk Duo at the Expo, a new recline economy seat for single-aisle aircraft.

With certification expected for late 2025 and deliveries in Q1 2026, Hawk Duo is 20% lighter than earlier Mirus seats, weighing 8.5 kilograms per passenger.

It is designed as either a full economy cabin seat or as a premium alternative to the company’s Kestrel fixed recline seat, with a five-inch mechanical recline.

“Hawk Duo is the product of outstanding teamwork, utilising our standard Kestrel platform and adding the recline and features options typically expected of a mainstream economy seat,” said Marcus Williams, Mirus’s Sales and Marketing Director. “What sets it apart is Mirus’s contemporary and modern design, enabling incredible levels of comfort and leg room. We also believe Hawk Duo is the most sustainable seat in its class, with its lifecycle lending to its green credentials.”

Mirus is hoping the Falcon seat will appeal to low-fare, long-haul operators.
