SkyWest Inc. has invested an undisclosed sum in the Dutch airframer Maeve Aerospace to support the development of a hybrid-electric regional aircraft.

The agreement establishes SkyWest as an equity investor and provides the company with exclusive launch customer rights for Maeve’s new aircraft, the MAEVE Jet.

The company said the investment reinforces SkyWest’s commitment to a more sustainable and technologically advanced future.

“SkyWest is committed to leading our industry forward, and we’re pleased to invest in Maeve as the leading edge of technological, sustainable advancements for regional aviation,” said Chip Childs, SkyWest, Inc. President and CEO.

Beyond the financial investment, SkyWest will provide its extensive knowledge of operations, performance, and design during the MAEVE Jet’s development phase, ensuring the aircraft is built with a deep understanding of airline needs.

Martin Nüsseler, Maeve Chief Technology Officer, hailed the partnership as “a significant milestone in regional aviation”.

“This investment, made by the largest regional airline in the world, not only validates our vision but also establishes a partnership that supports the development of the MAEVE Jet by providing important input from an operator to generate a real impact in the market and for more sustainable air travel,” he said.

The collaboration was also welcomed by MHIRJ, a partner in the project.

Ross Mitchell, MHIRJ Senior Vice President of Business Development, Strategy, and Communications, said: “We are excited about SkyWest’s endorsement of the MAEVE Jet. This partnership underscores their commitment to innovation in aviation and highlights our shared vision for a sustainable future. At MHIRJ, we look forward to collaborating closely to enhance regional travel by combining our expertise and resources.”

SkyWest, Inc. is the parent company of SkyWest Airlines, SWC, and SkyWest Leasing. SkyWest Airlines operates a fleet of nearly 500 aircraft, serving over 265 destinations across North America.
