JetBlue has announced a new initiative that will incentivise SAF contributions by offering tiles that customers can use towards perks and status upgrades. From 31 December, passengers who make a qualifying contribution towards SAF will earn one tile for every USD 100 spent. Tiles are an element of JetBlue’s TrueBlue loyalty programme, where customers can achieve Mosaic status after accumulating 50 tiles.
JetBlue has doubled SAF in its operations year-over-year since 2020, taking delivery of the alternative fuel at San Francisco International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport, with plans for SAF at JFK Airport in the pipeline. In 2022, the airline partnered with Chooose, a climate tech company, to provide a platform for customers to view their greenhouse gas emissions from flying and contribute to SAF.
The conditions state that 89.69% of the contributions will be allocated towards JetBlue for the purchase of SAF or blended SAF products, with a service fee of 10.31% going to Chooose. TrueBlue members are also limited to USD 1000 in SAF contributions for tiles, a maximum of 10 tiles earned.
“As we enter our sixth year of flying with SAF, we are now making it even easier (and rewarding) for customers to join us in our efforts.” said Sara Bogdan, Managing Director of Sustainability at JetBlue, “Whether you’re celebrating a great year of travel, or planning ahead for next year, we’re inviting you to partner with us to help address the carbon emissions caused by flying through contributions to sustainable aviation fuel.”
