IndiGo has selected RECARO Aircraft Seating’s R5 seat for its new A321neo business class cabin offering, ‘IndiGo Stretch’.
Each A321neo aircraft features 12 business class seats and 208 economy class seats. Aircraft deliveries are expected in Q4 2024, with business class installations scheduled to be completed by 2025. The R5 seat has a 38-inch seat pitch and a customised, lightweight design. A total of 45 shipsets have been ordered to facilitate this latest upgrade to IndiGo’s fleet.
“We are honoured to continue our longstanding partnership with IndiGo, a testament to the trust they place in RECARO to deliver unparalleled comfort and performance through our seating solutions,” said Dr Mark Hiller, CEO of RECARO Aircraft Seating and RECARO Holding.
Each seat is equipped with PC power and USB-C charging outlets, as well as a tablet holder. The backrest has privacy wings and an oversized centre console, offering storage for small items and enhancing the flying experience for passengers on short or medium-haul flights.
Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, said: “For our business product, the seat choice for RECARO’s R5 seat is a great fit to deliver our customers such a new experience of business travel in India matching the needs of evolving India and our customers.”
IndiGo announced its business class product on 12 of its domestic routes ahead of its 18th anniversary. According to CEO Elbers, the ‘IndiGo Stretch’ cabin tickets will be available from mid-November and will start on the Dehli-Mumbai route. The low-fare carrier’s shift to include a business product has widely been viewed as an attempt to stay competitive with Air India’s offering and capture a growing passenger market in India.
IndiGo made a record-breaking order for over 500 Airbus A320 family aircraft at the Paris Air Show last year. It currently services more than 110 domestic and international destinations.
