The power network failure affecting mainland Spain and Portugal has caused substantial disruption to commercial airline operations.
The latest figures from Cirium, the global aviation data and analytics company, reveal that 96 flights departing Portuguese airports have been cancelled so far. Lisbon was the worst affected, with 29.63% of departures cancelled. Nine flights from the UK to Portugal have also been cancelled so far.
In Spain, 45 departing flights have been cancelled so far, with the worst affected being:
- Barcelona – 2.98% departures cancelled
- Madrid – 2.56% departures cancelled.
Zero flights from the UK to Spain have been cancelled so far.
The cause of the extensive power outage remains unknown, and authorities in Spain and Portugal have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident or provide an estimated timeline for resolution.
The Balearic and Canary Islands and the Portuguese archipelago of Madeira are understood to be unaffected by the blackout.
