HK Express Airways (HK Express) has launched a new direct route connecting Hong Kong with Komatsu Airport (KMQ) in the Hokuriku District of northwestern Japan.

The three direct flights per week will remove the need to transfer through Tokyo, allowing passengers to reach Komatsu from Hong Kong in four hours.

HK Express CEO Jeanette Mao said the new route was “a significant step in our expansion into the Hokuriku region”.

“With this launch, our network in Japan has expanded to 12 destinations, solidifying our position as the Hong Kong airline with the most Japanese routes,” she said.

Komatsu is in the Ishikawa Prefecture in Hokuriku, a popular tourist destination known for its “slow living” culture.

“Whether it is immersing in the local life of Komatsu, relaxing in hot spring towns, savouring fresh seafood in Kanazawa, or wandering the historic Higashi Chaya District, visitors can experience the perfect blend of tradition and modernity,” said an HK Express spokesperson.

HK Express management team, Hong Kong Airport Authority management team and JNTO representatives celebrate the inaugural flight of the Komatsu route with passengers at Hong Kong International Airport, distributing commemorative gifts.
