Regional charter airline Flyvbird (Flyv) has announced the completion of its first demonstration flights on a Tecnam PC2012 Traveller at Germany’s Friedrichshafen Airport.

The company will start its first scheduled flights from that same airport in May 2025. Its goal is to redefine air travel in underserved regions. Initial bookings are expected to open later this year. The two flights, which took 15 minutes each, showcased Flyv’s product ahead of its proposed launch date.

Tomislav Lang, Flyvbird’s principal shareholder, founder, and former CEO of SkyWork Airlines, commented, “Yesterday marked a milestone for future regional air mobility models.

“With my extensive experience leading several airlines, I am thrilled to spearhead this visionary leap. Flyvbird combines cutting-edge technology with the needs of modern travellers, pathfinding a sustainable future in aviation.”

The Merse Family Group, Flyvbird’s lead investor, added: “Yesterday’s success demonstrates the future of air mobility is rooted in innovation and sustainability. We see enormous potential in Flyvbird and are thrilled to be part of this movement.”

Flyv’s fleet will consist of Tecnam P2012 Traveller aircraft, with the eventual aim of moving to the hybrid-electric version once it is in production and certified. As part of its operations, Flyv will use technology, such as AI, to create custom flight networks, leveraging smaller airports and sustainable turboprop aircraft for eco-friendly, efficient operations.
