Finnair has announced progress on the cabin upgrades for its regional jet fleet. The fourth of the airline’s 12 Embraer 190s is currently being refurbished at Exeter Aerospace, while three aircraft (OH-LKH, OH-LKK, and OH-LKN) are already in service with the updated interiors.
The upgraded cabins feature new Recaro seats throughout. Business Class passengers seated in rows 1 to 9 will enjoy the Recaro R2 seat, which offers a reclining backrest and extra cushioning. Economy Class passengers seated in rows 10 to 25 are fitted with the Recaro R1 seat, which has a preset reclining backrest. GenPhoenix has supplied the cover materials for both seat types.
The total number of seats per aircraft remains at 100, and a movable divider allows for flexible allocation of Business Class space. Additionally, Cobalt Aerospace has enhanced the cabin lighting, with a new LED system already implemented in Finnair’s A330 fleet. PriestmanGoode managed the overall cabin design.
In addition to prioritising passenger comfort, Finnair has made sustainability a key consideration in the cabin redesign. The new seats and carpet materials are lighter than their predecessors, resulting in a total weight reduction of about 150 kg per aircraft. This weight saving leads to lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions.
