easyJet and easyJet holidays are celebrating the opening of the Newcastle Airport base with a Geordie classic: Greggs. In partnership with the bakery chain, the airline is launching limited edition sausage roll dipping sauces inspired by new easyJet holiday destinations. Passengers travelling today will be given a complimentary sausage roll and dips, and easyJet cabin crew are also offering the items at landmarks around Newcastle.

The dips are described by the airline as follows:

  • Indulge in Italy with Silky Affogato – Intense deep roasted coffee, decadent cocoa, and aromatic vanilla bean. A classic Italian treat.
  • Fly away to France with tangy tarte tatin – The comforting taste of caramelised apple and warm cinnamon, with a delicate hint of thyme. A sophisticated patisserie classic.
  • Transported to Tunisia with spicy harissa ketchup – Vibrant and exotic, this sweet-and-spicy ketchup blends rich tomato, sweet date, and tangy pomegranate.
  • Soar off to Spain with snappy sangria – Bursting with red wine, zesty orange, and tangy cranberry. All the vibrant spirit of Spanish Sangria.
  • Take off to Turkey with saucy kebab – Aromatic and authentic, featuring zesty lemon, tangy vinegar, and smoky paprika. A total Turkish delight.

Three aircraft will be stationed at the new base, which has driven around 1,200 jobs, including 140 pilot and cabin crew roles. Newcastle marks the airline’s 11th UK base, with the most recent addition being London Southend Airport last year.

“We’re thrilled to be launching a new base in Newcastle, driven by the strong demand for our flights and package holidays in the region,” said Garry Wilson, easyJet holidays CEO. “This is a major milestone for us, so partnering with Greggs, a true Geordie icon and one of the city’s most famous exports, felt like the perfect way to celebrate our arrival. Offering sausage rolls onboard and out in the streets is our way of thanking the North East as we continue to make travel from their local airport easy and affordable.”

“The launch of easyJet’s new base marks a major milestone for Newcastle Airport and the wider North East region, and we’re delighted to celebrate the occasion in partnership with Greggs,” commented Nick Jones, Newcastle Airport CEO. “easyJet’s investment is a huge vote of confidence in the Airport and the North East and it will play a vital role in helping us meet the growing demand for flights and package holidays as we prepare for our busiest year on record, with six million passengers expected.”
