easyJet is continuing to develop its new base at London Southend with the announcement of three new routes from the airport. The new destinations, to Malta and Reus and Almeria in Spain, will commence operations in March 2025.

In May 2024, easyJet announced that London Southend would be its tenth UK base with three aircraft, and has been expanding its presence there ever since, with the introduction of Gran Canaria and Tenerife in the Canary Islands, Dalaman and Antalya in Turkey, Enfidha in Tunisia, Marrakech in Morocco, and Pisa in Italy as package holiday destinations originating from the airport.

“London Southend Airport is committed to providing a seamless, high-quality travel experience for people living in the east of London, Essex and East Anglia region, and we thank easyJet for expanding its range of choices,” said Marc Taylor, acting CEO of London Southend Airport. “Thousands of travellers from across the southeast have already chosen London Southend as their airport of choice for trips to Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands and France this summer, and advanced flight and holiday bookings are already filling up for winter sun, city and ski breaks.”

The acquisition of a new base is set to expand easyJet’s UK network and provide more options for international and regional travel. It is expected to create around 130 direct pilot and crew jobs, and more indirect jobs at the airport and within easyJet. The airline has been operating from the airport since 2012 and has flown over 7 million passengers from London Southend. easyJet now has 17 routes operating at the base.

“We are delighted to be putting 10 new routes on sale from our new base at London Southend Airport, which we look forward to opening next spring,” commented Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Country Manager. “Our continued growth and investment in the UK highlights the importance of this market and provides UK consumers with even more choice, with our customers choosing our flights and holidays for our trusted brand, unrivalled network and great value fares.”
