easyJet has just operated the busiest day in its history, with more than 2,000 flights carrying over 343,000 passengers across its network – a record for the airline.
In the UK alone, more than 196,000 passengers are flying to or from easyJet’s UK airports on over 1,100 flights, marking another milestone for the airline on a single day.
The record comes as the carrier is in the process of operating its biggest ever summer season, with eight additional Airbus A320 family aircraft having joined its UK-based fleet at Bristol, Newcastle, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow, as well as the launch of its newest base in Newcastle earlier this year.
More than 39 million seats are operating to and from the UK across the summer season, half a million more than last year, while 53 new routes have taken off for the first time this summer, including more choice to longer leisure destinations such as Turkey, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco.
With the school holidays drawing to a close and the return of unpredictable British weather, many travellers made the most of one last chance to enjoy some late-summer sunshine over the bank holiday weekend. Palma, Faro, Alicante and Milan were among the most popular destinations for last-minute bank holiday trips, whilst the most popular destinations for easyJet holidays packages over the long weekend included Palma, Tenerife and Rhodes.
