Britten-Norman, the UK-based, privately-owned aircraft manufacturer, has secured funding from Beechlands Enterprises to support increased production of the Islander and development of the company’s aftermarket business.

The company plans to use the cash injection from the Northern Ireland-based investor to manufacture up to eight aircraft per year at its Isle of Wight facility.

The majority will be the unleaded piston version of the Islander, with around 20% being turboprop variants.

Britten-Norman says it will invest in new manufacturing equipment to streamline component production, improve delivery times, and reduce overall costs.

William Hynett, Britten-Norman’s CEO, said: “This investment from Beechlands will enable Britten-Norman to complete its aircraft manufacturing repatriation programme. We will also be focusing on our international aftermarket operations.”

Patrick Cowan, formerly of Short Brothers, will join the Britten-Norman board as part of the deal.
