UK aircraft manufacturer Britten-Norman has gained US FAA approval for the larger variant of the BN2B Islander, the BN2T-4S, 30 years after the UK approved the type.

This change complements the existing type certificates for the aircraft from the UK CAA and EASA and opens up new markets for the company in the USA and internationally.

The BN2T-4S Islanders are currently manufactured at the company’s Solent manufacturing facilities in the UK.

The Britten-Norman Islander aircraft is available in multiple configurations, from commuter, medevac, and surveillance aircraft.

“Obtaining type certification for any aircraft is a major achievement,” said Mark Shipp, Britten-Norman’s Technical Director. “We are very proud to have had the opportunity to work closely with the FAA to achieve this important goal,” he added, with the company looking forward to the opportunities that will stem from this certification.

Type certification approval for the BN2T-4S Islander is currently underway in India and Canada.
