The Board of Airline Representatives in the UK (BAR-UK) has named Michael Smeeth as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Smeeth, who assumed the role this week, brings extensive leadership experience to the organisation, which represents the majority of airlines operating in the UK.

With over 25 years in executive roles, his background spans various sectors, including most recently as CEO of Transition Hydrogen Solutions. Previous roles include CEO at General Electric and Sustainable Development Capital.

Smeeth takes the helm at BAR-UK during a critical period for the aviation industry. The sector faces challenges navigating new government policies, meeting ambitious sustainability targets, and supporting economic growth.

As CEO, Smeeth will be responsible for developing and implementing BAR-UK’s strategic direction, advocating for policies that create a competitive, safe, and sustainable aviation environment.

“I am excited to join BAR-UK at this important juncture,” Smeeth said. “I look forward to collaborating with the team to further strengthen the organisation’s role as the unified voice of airlines in the UK.”

Colin Stewart, Chairman of the Board of BAR-UK, said: “We are delighted to welcome Michael as BAR-UK’s new Chief Executive. He brings the right blend of insight, strategic acumen, and visionary leadership. We are confident Michael will be instrumental in propelling BAR-UK toward even greater achievements.”
