Breeze Airways has received the first of its new A220-300 aircraft from commercial aircraft lessor Azorra as the low-fare carrier continues its fleet transition from Embraer 190 and 195s to Airbus A220s.

This new delivery follows Breeze’s announcement in February that it had ordered a further 10 Airbus A220s on top of its 90 firm orders and that it plans to solely operate this type in its fleet by the end of 2024. It is the first aircraft of 22 due to be delivered to the airline from Azorra.

The new A220 from Azorra is the 24th A220 to join Breeze’s fleet, and the first to be assembled at Airbus’s Canadian plant in Mirabel, Quebec. Breeze aims to have 32 A220s by the end of 2024.

Breeze’s CEO, David Neeleman, said: “The A220 is the focal point of Breeze’s business model. From its largest-in-category windows and spacious overhead storage bins to its incredible efficiency and being the quietest in its class, our guests love the elevated travel experience on Breeze’s A220s. It has been a pleasure working with our partners at Azorra, and this new aircraft will enable Breeze to continue to grow beyond our current 56 cities across 29 states.”

John Evans, CEO and founder of Azorra, added: “We are truly excited to be delivering the first A220 from our firm order book to our longstanding friends at Breeze. The unparalleled efficiency of this new aircraft will complement Breeze’s growing fleet of A220s and support the airline as it looks to expand its coast-to-coast network across the US.”

Breeze launched operations in 2021 with a fleet of Embraer E190 and E195 aircraft and took delivery of its first A220 aircraft in December 2021. Much of the Embraer fleet will be used to grow Breeze’s growing charter flight business, while the A220s will operate the airline’s scheduled commercial flights, the airline confirmed.
