Avion Express Malta has been issued with a Foreign Air Operator Certificate (FAOC) from Transport Canada issued by the Minister of Transport.

The airline, a subsidiary of Avion Express, started its operations in May and has been flying for Europe’s third-largest LCC Norwegian Air for the 2019 summer season.

Obtaining a FAOC is a significant step for the Malta-based company. The certificate serves as a prerequisite to air operations seeking to conduct a service to and from Canada.

Darius Kajokas, CEO of Avion Express and Avion Express Malta, said: “Obtaining the permit to operate in the Canadian market is another important step in our consistent business development plan. We’ve been exploring the market and discussing cooperation opportunities with Canadian airlines for Avion Express Malta for while now, and we are happy to complete another strategic move forward.”

Operations in Canada under a wet-lease agreement require a lessor to hold a Canadian foreign air operator certificate.
